High Lakes 4x4 for a fizzy square
I rode along with mjp303 to the High Lakes OHV area east of Chico to get GCXM3X High Lakes OHV Area, Morris Lake Overlook. Snow, mud, water, big rocks—all made for quite an adventure. It wasn’t prudent to drive all the way, so we walked the last third of a mile. I’m really disappointed that we didn’t go to GCXM43 High Lakes OHV Area, Long Lake, since we were within a mile. If I go back for this one, I can probably get within 2 or 3 miles with my Ridgeliine, if I’m careful. The few photos I took of the trip are in my High Lakes photo album.

Venona 2008 activities begin
The annual Venona puzzle activities started with a real geocache this year. It was a cipher and was solved by the GBA master puzzlers. Since Dan and I were close to the cache we headed out to retrieve the hint contained in it, and also claimed FTF on it.

Half Moon Bay
We spent the day at Half Moon Bay, driving over in the morning (after most of the commute traffic) and arrived in time to wander Main Street a bit before having lunch at Pasta Moon.
We found seven caches (and DNF’d two). We did less that half of the Legend of the Blue Pearls series, so there’s more to do on a return trip.

Eastern Sierra
I had a very interesting trip to Bishop and Lone Pine (with a side trip out to Eureka Dunes in Death Valley) with the GBA folks. We found a number of caches, with one of them filling in another fizzy square for me.

Double FTF hike in Del Valle
Dan and I headed out this morning for a quick hike in Del Valle (about 4.6 miles) to find two new caches. They were in familiar locations (that is, we’ve hiked by the locations before) and we were the first to find.

Sacramento with Dan
Dan needed to file paperwork with a state office in Sacramento, so I went along for the ride. Afterwards, we searched for a few caches in the area (found 7). In particular, we went back to look for Cryptanalysis, and found it after a fairly short search. It really helped that the bushes had been recently pruned.

Passing the time
Karen was scheduled for a surgical biopsy at Kaiser, so I took off on a walking tour to get some Walnut Creek caches. Got as far as Where Has John Gone when she called me to come get her. After carefully examining the x-rays, two radiologists agreed there wasn’t anything to try to biopsy. That was really good news.

Sebastopol vacation
To celebrate our anniversary (yesterday) we headed up to Sebastopol for a night in a nice bed and breakfast. The first thing we did was park in Santa Rosa and ride our bikes along the Santa Rosa trail almost to Forestville. There were several caches along the trail, but we only stopped to look for a couple, and only found one.
The stay at Casa Carolina was interesting (we were the only guests), but seemed overpriced (although the whole area seems that way). We had a wonderful dinner at Mosaic in Forestville.
