...to find or not to find...

Jackson area

While Karen had an enjoyable visit with Nancy, I drove around to some interesting places and hunted caches.

Prelude to a Crash! (11:46 AM) was right along highway 49 up on an embankment that had a steep way and an easier way approach. I took the easier way, and it was an easy find.

Turned off upstream on Electra road along the Mokelumne River (running full) and hunted for another of Greenacher’s caches, Oh, Grate! 2 (12:21 PM). Having found the first one I knew exactly what to look for, but it still took a while.

Up river at the powerhouse at easily found Fish Out Of Water (12:42 PM) and then wandered around looking at the huge inlet pipe to the powerhouse and the foundations of the old houses that were here in Electra.

Found Moke Hill #2: The Legers (1:31 PM) in one of the cemeteries and Moke Hill #1 (1:44 PM) in the other one.

After picking up Karen, we stopped to look at the large tailing wheels and found The Wheel (3:02 PM).

Briones with Karen

Karen and I took some time this afternoon to hike in north Briones. Got in a little over 4 miles.

First up was Rebel Alliance (2:34 PM). I had no idea this was a linux inspired cache knocking the MS evil empire until I was reading the description while logging it. It was an easy find, although a bit of a steep hill at the last.

We easily found the single track to get to Newt (3:07 PM). Another easy find--the camo is rotting away. Surprisingly, there was a small newt sitting right on top of the container. I thought it might be plastic because it didn’t move at first. We gently deposited it elsewhere after getting a picture.

TA@10K #3000 (4:01 PM) was another pretty easy find. It’s part of a series with a clue at each cache that can be put together to find the final.

Not too far away was a Team Alamo hide--Love is Fleeting (4:16 PM). Since it was a micro, it was pretty obvious where it had to be.

Off to Briones and Concord

With a bit of a break in the rainy weather, I wanted to do a bit of hiking and cache hunting, so I headed to the south-east corner of Briones. The trails were very sloppy, with running water on some of them. Luckily the soil was more sandy than in some of our parks, so I didn’t end up carrying around a couple of pounds of mud on each boot.

First up was 1% (12:03 PM), which was an easy find, and yet not so easy.

I found Stale Mints (12:33 PM) quickly, although it was good camo, and could have taken a while.

The trail got steep with a climb up to Lafayette Crossroads (12:57 PM), but it was a quick find. Then had to climb some more to Mallory’s Cache (1:11 PM). From here, I doubled back and with some up and down along the ridge found Lafayette Too (1:34 PM).

I got lucky on Mr. T (2:00 PM) and found it quickly. It could have been hard.

From there it was downhill to Springhill Climb (2:23 PM). And then it was back to the car and a drive over to Lime Ridge.

Becky gave a pretty specific hint, so I went back to Welcome to Paradise (Valley) (3:39 PM). Found it real quick, but it was at least 100 feet from her coords.

Memorial Cache (4:20 PM) was a decon container on the fringe of a memorial. Not real easy. Revenge (5:17 PM) was hard, but not for me to find. I just chose the craziest approach, and got stymied by a rushing creek I couldn’t get across. Last one in Concord (or was it Clayton) was Somewhere between Louisiana and Pennsylvania (5:37 PM).

On the drive home I stopped for Fore or Five or Six (6:24 PM). Easy to find once I got the proper position in relation to the bushes.
