...to find or not to find...

Copperopolis

I drove to Copperopolis today to check on our property and talk to a real estate agent. I found out that sales are very flat this year.

On the way up I stopped for a few caches along highway 4. I solved the County Line puzzle but did not attempt the find because I did not like the parking—it seemed unsafe. There is a cache at an honest to goodness ghost town—Telegraph City. There are no complete buildings, just some foundations and a few walls. The copper mines were the reason for its existence.

On the way back I stopped at Knight’s Ferry and checked on the Rooted Rock cache. As a terrain 4 cache it’s more than I want to try alone. So I hiked out another third of a mile to the last rapids and snagged that cache. Boy, was it hot.

Totaled 9 caches for the day.

Jackson event and a few caches

I had intended to go out this morning in search of some caches, but one thing led to another and it was mid-afternoon before I got serious. Then I noticed there was a pizza event in Jackson--wait, I was just there yesterday. Nevertheless, I thought it would be neat to meet some new folks.

My mistake was underestimating the Friday afternoon escape from the bay area--traffic was really slow all the way to Stockton. I only had enough time to stop for one cache on the way up. The Motherlode MuggleBusters seem to be a timely bunch--the event was well underway when I got there just 10 minutes late. All the folks were nice and friendly--good thing since I didn’t know any of them.

After the event I found another five caches, all close to highway 88 on the way home.

Wood’s Lake loop hike

Today we drove up highway 88 to Carson Pass and parked at Wood’s Lake. We took the Winnemucca Lake trail (as we have done several times in the past). The wildflowers were blooming in profusion. After resting a bit at Winnemucca, we continue the climb up to Round Top Lake (around 9,300 ft elevation). We were debating about continuing down the Lost Mine Trail to return to Wood’s Lake (which we have never done because it always seemed so dry when we looked that direction). While talking, we greeted another couple who said it was a great hike, with lots of flowers. It was indeed, a wonderful hike down.

I was 0 for 2 on the geocaching scene. Both were lame micros in the woods. They were lame not because I couldn’t find them, but because one was written up incorrectly and the other was apparently a micro in a pile of rocks.

Livermore and Danville

I went out this afternoon and picked up a red jeep travel bug that Dan had left in Map Heroes, and then two caches in Livermore and three in Danville. Along the way I dropped a bunch of e-cycle stuff in San Ramon.

Something weird

Solved the Something weird this way comes puzzle today, which took me quite a bit of internet research. Finding the actual cache was relatively easy.

Map Heroes solved

Today I just happened to take another look at Dan’s Map Heroes puzzle and had the concept in hand in just a few minutes. Didn’t take long after that to get the coords, and I drove out to get the cache after dinner.
